"Celtic Lamentations"
by Aine Minogue
The concept for CELTIC LAMENTATIONS began in 2002 as Aine Minogue was contemplating how to honor and pay respects to the bereaved on the anniversary of the September 11th disaster. The album's focus is on healthy expressions of grief and the traditions that go hand-in-hand with it. Minogue's voice is light and lilting, bearing a resemblance to that of Moya Brennan, and fits well with the somber yet hopeful themes of this release. Instrumentation falls on the soft end of the spectrum, including Irish harp, dreamy keyboard ambiance, cello, flute and whistle.

"Celtic Woman"
by Various Artists
Produced by the same team responsible for Riverdance, CELTIC WOMAN is a tribute to the heart and soul of the Celts. Featured are four singers - Chloe, Lisa, Orla and most notably Meav, providing sweetly sublime renditions of Irish folk tunes, modern day pop favorites and classical fare. Two of these "Celtic women" provide instrumentation - Orla on harp and Mairead on fiddle; however, most of the cuts also include lush symphonic orchestration in the backdrop, providing another tie to the "Riverdance" sound.

"Highland Heart"
by Kim Robertson
For over two decades, listeners have found comfort and solace in the exquisite harp-playing of Kim Robertson. "Mystic Dance"
by Maggie Sansone
The Irish-based hammered dulcimer and the Persian santur/santoor are two very similar instruments, both sonically and physically. With MYSTIC DANCE, Maggie Sansone borrows elements from both the Irish and Middle Eastern idioms, as well as those from the medieval period, to create a sound that blends influences from multiple cultures and timeframes. As with many of Sansone's releases, the overall mood of the album is rather joyous and upbeat, especially the "Celtic Wedding Set," which is awash with happy energy.

"The Mask and Mirror"
by Loreena McKennitt
THE MASK AND THE MIRROR is a majestic pilgrimage across the Mediterranean region. McKennitt's instrumentation is more exotic this time out, incorporating more Middle Eastern, Indian and Gypsy influences with the use of instruments like the ney, dumbek, tamboura, electric sitar and the esraj. Her haunting vocals are still the focal point and are as gorgeous as ever, as she humbly croons lyrics based on the poetic works of St. John on the Cross and Yeats with the emotive manner of a Celtic air.

"Isle of Dreaming"
by Kate Price
Price's music has originality all its own, blending dulcimer melodies with Indian instrumentation, rhythms and ambiance of the Middle East, and even elements of medieval European music. In other words, it's a feast for the ears that is once whimsical and earthy. Price's vocals are pristine throughout, sometimes coming across as breathy and Enya-esque, while at other times sounding strikingly clear and dulcet. ISLE OF DREAMING is a lush and unique album - this is definitely one to pick up if you enjoy contemporary Celtic music, especially that with a Mediterranean flair.
"Celtic Drums"
by John Richardson
Captivated by the telling of Carmen's epic tale of Tulan, John Richardson has surpassed himself with a recording that has all the vivid drama of the fiery Celtic legend. It is the story of a gifted son, Tulan, who, when grown, is well loved for his drumming with its joyous sounds and healing qualities. Richardson's sensational drumming is complemented by the authentic violin of Joe O'Donnell and the mystical sound of uillean pipes played by Aiden O'Brien. The moods range from reflection to celebration, on a rousing collection that brings the lands of Celtic myth back to life.
