"An Ancient Muse"
by Loreena McKennitt
With her first album in almost nine years, McKennitt offers a rich, ornate collection of self-produced gems that takes the listener from the cliffs of Ireland through the Mediterranean region and onward to the fabled Silk Road. Pairing romance with history, McKennitt's tales of English royalty, Greek mythology and Turkish tradition are incredibly compelling, made more so by McKennitt's glorious dulcet voice. The songs are woven from a tapestry of period and regional instruments and rank among the best she has done to date.

"Avalon: A Celtic Legend"
by Enaid
Co-producers David and Diane Arkenstone, along with an ensemble of musicians, come together under the name Enaid (the old Irish Celtic word for life) to musically recreate the inspired legend of King Arthur and Camelot on AVALON - A CELTIC LEGEND. These original songs, performed on violin, pennywhistle, flute and keyboards, range from gentle and pastoral to uplifting and rollicking. The colorful musical paintings of Enaid are beautiful and will transport you back to a time where love and chivalry reigned freely.

"The Book of Secrets"
by Loreena McKennitt
BOOK OF SECRETS is likely the most recognizable of Canadian-born vocalist Loreena McKennitt's albums, largely due to the pop-chart success of "The Mummer's Dance," (her first chart hit).  "The Highwayman," based on an Alfred Noyes poem, is one of the album's stronger offerings and shows McKennitt's growing flair for enriching narratives. The song has a melody that's a hybrid of Celtic and medieval music; as the song moves forward, it grows in intensity incorporating instruments like electric guitar and heavy percussion for dramatic effect.

"Amarantine"
by Enya
There are no surprises here; Enya's trademark overdubbed vocals float through each of these tracks with celestial lightness, her breathy purr whipped up into a choir of ethereal beauty. The arrangements are similar to her past work as well, focusing on soft synthesizers, subtle waltz-like rhythms and tender melodies. Highlights of the album include "Sumiregusa," Enya's first Japanese language song, and "The River Sings," an upbeat song that's reminiscent of her popular "Storms in Africa" from WATERMARK.

"Celtic Dreams"
by Meav with Anuna
The profile of Meav Ni Mhaolchatha hit an all time high in 2005, when the crystalline voiced chanteuse began recording and touring as a member of the notable "Celtic Woman" quintet. It's her Anuna years, however, that are highlighted on CELTIC DREAMS. This album, which features material recorded between 1995 and 1998, is simply gorgeous - the purity of Meav's voice matches perfectly with the heavenly voices of Anuna.
