"Breathing Spaces"
by Jiang Xiao-Qing
The Gu-Zheng is an ancient Chinese string instrument that bears both an aesthetic and sonic resemblance to the Japanese Koto. Musician Jiang Xiao-Qing plays the instrument with extreme grace and attention to detail her debut solo album. Performing the difficult task of playing Western style, quasi-classical melodies on an instrument not initially designed for them, Xiao-Qing's melodies are delicate and emotional, capturing the simplistic beauty of nature, love and tenderness.
